Bismillah

I have been reading, for last few days, a book called [i]The Awaited Saviour[/i] by Ayaullah Baqir al-Sadr, and Ayatullah Murtaza Mutahhery. It is a very good book about the Mahdi. Most Muslim believe in the Mahdi’s appearance, but unless you’re Shia, you don’t know who he is. This book I am reading proves to those who are not Shia, and people in general that the Mahdi is in fact the 12th Imam. We can get into that later Insha’Allah.

I am Shia, raised in a Sunni fashion though didn’t know what it was, or what it meant to be Sunni. Actually I never thought about it until someone asked me one day in Philadelphia if I was an Orthodox Muslim. I answered yes not knowing what that really meant or why he asked me this in the first place. Once I asked my mother what ‘type’ of Muslims we are and she hesitantly said Sunni, she said “I guess” after stating her answer though.

My father expressed to me that he is Sunni after I told him that I now am Shia. I don’t believe he took to the news very well but we are still as close as we were before he knew. The only thing is, he doesn’t touch the subject… I think he thinks I blindly went into such a thing, and don’t know anything about it. He obviously doesn’t think it is ‘right’ though he doesn’t act as if it is wrong. I know that if he thought it was wrong there would be confrontations between us.

He annissauly said he wanted to look into it more and understand it… As far as I know he hasn’t though. That’s ok… I guess, I’d like him to research it, and the history of Islam after and before the death of our dear prophet Muhammad.
